Technology description "Drinking water purification"

The problem of pure drinking water always existed and remains as an urgent and significant one in all regions of the world. Nature acid waters with low salinity (mineralization) rate, high carbonic activity and corrosion aggressiveness are typical for North-West Russian regions as well as for Scandinavian countries, Canada and others.

Drinking water is required to pass through a specific preparation to be of regular salinity corresponding to international standards. By the efforts of "Vodokanal" water is exposed to a thorough purification and testing in Saint-Petersburg. Nevertheless some problems still up to date remain unsolved:

  • the water mineral content after going through a pumping facility does not meet international requirements;
  • water application properties do not correspond to primary characteristics in the most regions of Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
It also links to a high depreciation level of municipal services pumping facility system and initially low mineral content in the water supplied.

In a view of extremely large water delivery value by "Vodokanal" the problem solution while water preparing stage is both very expensive and difficult to control.

Water preparation is an expensive technological process. Water chlorination is still extensively used in a number of places which becomes ecologically dangerous if to use it together with acid waters. As a result very harmful to health chlororganic compounds, such as dioxins and chlorine-phenyls are forming.

Usage of some water-soluble phosphate glasses of high sorption ability in water preparation tasks allows to step up to nature processes and strength water line corrosion-resistance to the maximum (raising pH level and making a protective covering of water pipe surface containing phosphate).

"AGROVIT" JSC together with Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University had an experience of making different kinds of water soluble glass (for instance: to produce complex mineral vitreous fertilizers with prolonged action). As a result of this mutual work it was shown that the conversion of polycrystal compounds into a vitreous state allows to solve a series of interconnected tasks:

  • slow layered dissolution of vitreous granules which results in a permanent simultaneous release of all components needed in balanced ratio (due to required composition of basic macro and micro elements beforehand introduced into glass bath );
  • control of the process of the elements needed conversion into water solution is simplified to the maximum and becomes high-reliable one, as it's determined only by glass composition, temperature, water debit and vitreous granules quantity (10-20 mm in diameter) placed in conduit.

As a result both full-scale (city) and local water-supply systems oriented on separate residential areas or objects (hospitals, hotels, cottage settlements and others) are possible to create. Period of validity without substitution of vitreous mineral sources can be 1-2 years if the content of supplied water is constant. It's provided by gradual dissolution of granules layers - "lollipop effect".

Program "Pure Water" solves the following problems:

  1. The stations building for the acid waters mineralization in the North-West region with the aim to enrich them with macro and micro elements useful for man;
  2. Raising water lines corrosion-resistance;
  3. Optimization of the water quality control according to the temperature and the seasonal composition changes.

The solution of these problems on Saint-Petersburg scale requires heavy expenses.
