Application of the complex mineral fertilizer AVA in forestry

The fertilizer AVA was tested in one of forest nurseries in Karelia (North-west of Russia) in 2000. The experiments were focused on the influence of the fertilizer applied for one and two years old seeding-pines. As the loamy sand in that area is poor in nitrogen and the fertilizer AVA does not contain it in its formula, AVA was tested as well together with the ammonia nitrate in the rates optimum for the seeding-pine development.

The results of these trials show that the fertilizer AVA and AVA together with nitrogen have influenced positively on the common nitrogen and especially of the ammonium nitrogen content in the soil, on the development of the soil microflora, especially on nitrogen fixing microorganisms. Also stimulation of seeding-pine growth and formation of pigmentary system of needles has been marked.

Experiments of AVA application for leaf-bearing trees show notable amelioration of plant development during a vegetative period both in the first year and next season. A considerable decrease of seeding-pine fall is noticed as well.

The plants develop rapidly and harmoniously as a whole, completely using air and soil nutrition. Trace elements in AVA formula have a positive influence on the growth speed of the overhead as well as of the underground plant part. Nitrogen absence allows both coniferous and leaf-bearing trees to develop uniformly without exceeding natural growth rates, That promotes correct formation of root system and maturing of seeding-pine increase in current year prior to the beginning of a dormant period. Besides of that, the fertilizer AVA can be singled out as one of the forest soil ameliorants having a good future for application in different regions of the world.

How to apply the fertilizer AVA in forestry?

  1. The fertilizer AVA can be applied to the soil at any time, even in the late autumn without fear to loose soil nutrients together with rains and water from melted snow during the winter and spring. The autumn application of the fertilizer AVA will prepare the soil to the vegetative period.
  2. The fertilizer AVA can be applied at planting because its granules dissolve in the soil mainly under the influence of the acids exuded by plant roots and soil microorganisms. The dissolution process depends on the soil temperature and moisture conditions to a smaller degree. It helps to avoid chock load on the week root system as it happens when conventional fertilizers are applied. Traditional fertilizers dissolve quickly under the temperature and water influence and suppress roots and soil microflora.
  3. Thanks to its special dissolution mechanism, the fertilizer AVA can be applied in water safeguard areas.
The optimum dosage of the fertilizer AVA at the continuous application method over total plantation area is 20 g/m2 of its granulated fraction.

When the fertilizer is to be applied in the soil around a trunk, we recommend the following rates:

The maximum rate of the fertilizer AVA for seeding-trees is 1 kg of the powder fraction per 1 m3 of the prepared peat mixture.
